California Man Fights Off Intruder With Locked Gun Case

Chula Vista resident Ryan Emerson legally owns a Remington 12 gauge shotgun—so when someone broke into his home on Monday night he immediately went to retrieve it so as to protect his family.

California law mandates that firearms be stored with a cable lock through the action, and that ammunition be stored separately, also locked. By the time Mr. Emerson had carried the ammunition to where the cable-locked shotgun was stored in its locked case, the intruder was sexually assaulting his wife.

“While fumbling with the combination lock on the gun case,” Emerson recalls, “I called out to the rapist that he should not come yet because I almost had it unlocked and would soon be able to unlock the ammo, load it, and then shoot him. But he said it felt too good and didn’t think he could hold out.”

And that’s when Emerson took decisive action. “I ran over to the bed,” he continued, “and hit him over the head with the gun case. He fell off the bed unconscious without getting the chance to possibly inseminate my wife. We’ll get her checked out for herpes this Friday. Boy am I thankful for my Second Amendment rights!”
